It's time for Goans to stay put, fight for their rights

This is with reference to the report, "428 Goans obtained foreign passports in the last 3 months,"  The Goan Everyday - April 25,  2024. That was indeed a disturbing piece of news on your front page. This trend of Goans surrendering their Indian passports, obtaining Portuguese passports and migrating to the West in search of greener pastures is indeed cause for worry. It's like politicians abandoning a sinking ship and jumping over to other parties. And this trend is also prevalent among other communities like the East Indians & others in Mumbai. They migrate to the West and then make all efforts to keep alive their culture, traditions, customs alive. Doesn't that sound a bit selfish? However, there are certain organizations in Mumbai like the Mobai Gaothan Panchayat (MGP) which has been striving to keep alive the local culture in the country. It's time for all of us, Goans & all others to wake up, stand up, stay put and fight for their rights. With Goans abandoning their homeland we are leaving the fray open for outsiders to take over. Can we see the Goan pride back, please?
