Former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court Justice Ferdino Rebello while speaking at a programme organised to mark Goa Legislator's Day on Friday has called upon Goans to unite to protect the land of the state and ensure that they remain its true custodians. He has also strongly criticised the ongoing hill cutting activities in the state, terming them as 'totally illegal' and detrimental to local communities and the environment. He has rightly asked as to when Goa's population is very small and when Goans are already facing major water shortage/electricity problem, why the builders lobby should be allowed to cut all the vast hills and bring their huge mega projects/flats/bungalows in the state in the name of development. He has therefore called for the immediate withdrawal of the 2023 circular, which according to him, allows rampant destruction of hills. Well, what Justice Ferdino Rebello has said is absolutely true. Our 'susegad' Goans should therefore listen to the wise words of this learned son of the soil, come forward to support him and stop our politicians from further auctioning/destroying Goa for the sake of doing their own personal interests.
