This is with reference to the report, "Govt working to further women's empowerment... ,The Goan Everyday March 9, 2023." It is fitting that we applaud women, especially on days dedicated to women, like Women's Day, for their role in our country's progress. Yes, we are seeing women making a mark in several fields. Today, we also have a woman as the president of our nation. Well, Women's Day has passed us by, we have finished with the applauding. Now, what next? What are the ground realities? Even as we celebrate Women's Day there could be some woman somewhere who is facing harassment, some young girl somewhere who must be getting molested or sexually assaulted. Are we going to forget that such things happen? All our praises of women would sound hollow if we cannot ensure that women are treated as equals, that they are given a fair deal. Let our tribute to the achievements of our 'Nari Shakti' not be a one day affair!
