The cyclonic storm besides wrecking havoc across the state and causing immense hardship has also put the engineers, linesmen and the support staff of the Electricity Department Team at the receiving end.
With over 70 per cent of Goa without power for the last 2 days, it has been an uphill task for the linesmen to handle the present situation.
Over three hundred electricity poles and around 200 transformers were damaged taking a heavy toll on the infrastructure.
Despite all these odds, the linesmen have put up a brave front and have managed to restore power to most parts of the State. This despite having no proper tools and manpower shortage.
It is certainly difficult to address complaints from a large number of people. This also led to friction between the power officials and the citizens who had to bear the brunt of the cyclone.
The electricity department staffers however needs to be applauded for their hard work in these trying times and despite being short-staffed. There were also several people who came forward to help the linesmen to clear the trees that were uprooted on the roads.
Power minister needs to take note of this and in fact come out with a statement praising their efforts and immediately address the staff crunch in the department.
