Consumers have been alerted by a consumer and civic forum about the possibility of increased incidence of theft of LPG from the cylinders. Consumers have been advised to weigh the LPG cylinders before accepting their delivery at the doorstep. Obviously every household will have to equip itself with a weighing scale, be it an electronic or a manual one. The news doing the rounds is that thieves are indulging in theft of LPG gas from cylinders and refilling them with water. If that be the case then weighing a cylinder at the time of delivery will not serve any purpose as the weight will remain the same for a cylinder refilled with water. What is necessary is to make it impossible to reseal a cylinder after the seal is broken. This will prevent theft of the gas and refilling it with water. In the present scenario the seal of the cylinder can be opened and easily resealed.
