The hike in the price of milk which was announced by the Goa Dairy came into effect from Saturday. It is learnt that the increase in the price is due to the soaring costs of production and cattle feed.
This will come as an extra financial burden on the consumers who are already grappling with the rising cost of other staple items like cooking oil and pulses.
It is pertinent to note that Goa Dairy had increased the price of milk by Rs 2-4 which came into effect from January 1, 2020. Goa Dairy had earlier hiked the price of all its varieties of milk by Rs 3-4 in September 2016 and again in February 2017.
The last time the price of milk was hiked was eight months ago in May 2022. Now with the increase in the price of milk by a whooping Rs 4 per litre it will hit the domestic budget real hard.
The frequent rise in the price of milk could have an adverse impact on poor families. The state government needs to come to the aid of Goa Dairy so that there is a rollback or at least a reduction in the price hike.
