Modi's visit to Russia & Ukraine has served no purpose despite the tomtoming about its success in India's media and by EAM Jaishankar. The day before Modi landed in Moscow to meet Putin, Russia scaled up its offensive on Ukraine by bombing Kiev. The same thing happened before Modi reached Kiev. Zelensky launched a massive bombing attack on Russia. He had also encroached into the Kursk region and occupied some 850 sq km of Russian territory. Russia responded by opening a deeper front in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. Modi landed in Kiev right in the middle of these developments to meet a confrontational Zelensky and was forced to mouth the same inanities that it is important to have a dialogue to end the war. After Modi left Ukraine Zelensky came out with statements that Modi's visit served no purpose and that India has been taking advantage of the war by giving Russian oil a channel to generate revenue by beating the West's embargo. Thus one cannot understand why India & Modi should accept being played like a pawn in this game of 2 countries.
