At the outset, Michael Lobo needs to be congratulated on his new appointment as leader of the CLP. As a seasoned politician and go- getter, Lobo’s appointment as leader of the Opposition by the Congress High Command, is a well-thought decision and a morale booster for the beleaguered Congress party.
It will hopefully strengthen the weak Congress which was both voiceless and toothless and mired in internal squabbles. The infusion of new blood into the Congress leadership and working committee will also hopefully revive and strengthen the dying democracy in the state.
Secondly, had it not been for the untiring efforts of Michael Lobo and his timely switching over from the BJP to the Congress, and his untiring efforts of securing Congress votes, in the Calangute-Siolim belt, the Congress’ final Assembly vote count would have been single digit.
And with his known extraordinary potential of rocking the boat in troubled times, it would not be easy to dismiss the cherished hopes of Lobo toppling the BJP government.
Although Sawant has rubbished these statements, it is nevertheless a disturbing piece of news for the Chief minister.
