Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York mayoral primaries seems to indicate that US citizens are scared of the kind of politics that Trump has brought to the country. They are scared that they are going to suffer more during Trump’s second term, that their benefits are likely to be withdrawn, and they know that they are living pay-cheque to pay-cheque. If Medicaid is taken away, they may face financial ruin.
In our country, drunk on gaumutra and religion, at least 40% of the population has no worries. In fact, they are, at least vocally, willing to pay a higher price for anything as long as Hindus rule supreme and Muslims are harassed/lynched. Unfortunately for Trump, he cannot resort to a Hindu-Muslim divide in the US.
If the victory of Zohran Mamdani is any indication, then things are slowly but surely turning for the better in the US. For that, credit should be given to the independent judiciary and media that have taken Trump apart and do not shy away from calling him out.
