There are a number of heritage sites in our country and we need to protect and preserve them. Many of them have become tourist attractions and that is good. The Monte Chapel in old Goa is one of them. According to the newsreport, the authorities are planning an eco-tourism project near the Monte Chapel. The authorities ought to take into account the environmental damage which the newresport says involves hill cutting, while planning such projects.
The Goa Heritage Action Group (GHAG) has therefore rightly objected to this project. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that all heritage sites whether they are religious structures or otherwise, are protected and preserved while cashing in on tourism.
