With rising levels of crime there is an urgent need to take all necessary steps for the overall improvement of the police force in Goa. Murders, rapes, kidnap and ransom cases are now a regular affair. Major robberies and even contract killings have also been happening. Efficient methods of investigation, detection and better and quicker conviction rates are the only deterrent to such crimes. Prevention of many of these heinous crimes through better surveillance and effective use of technology as well as a good quality well-resourced professional police force free of any external interference must always be a priority. Goa’s police officers can be trained in scientific investigation of crime at the Central Detective Training School in Kolkata and at the National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science in Delhi both these institutions coming under the Union Home Ministry. Specialised advanced training can be sought at the Border Security Force (BSF)’s School of Weapons and Tactics at Indore. The Goa Police have some very brilliant officers with aptitude who could be sent for intense training so that there is a marked improvement in policing and a methodical investigation of crimes.
