This is with reference to the news report 'Pilgrims embark on journey by Vasco-Vailankanni Express' (TGE , May 7 ). Notwithstanding the duty of every citizen to cast his/her vote on election day , there appears to be some justification on the part of the 500-odd pilgrims who undertook the pilgrimage to Vailankanni on the eve of elections in Goa, given the ordeal they underwent in securing a booking 4 months in advance, and totally oblivious of the election date in Goa. Secondly, it is not known whether the trip was sponsored by some well wishers , but the question remains as to how many of us would refuse such a godsend. Finally, prayers as we know are known to work wonders. We in Goa have been praying every day at masses and holy hours for the wisdom to select secular representatives who will work for the welfare of the people and the country and to protect the sacred Constitution and democratic values that are being currently eroded. And what better way than a pilgrimage to the shrine of the miraculous Our Lady of Vailankanni, who is known to work wonders?
