This is with reference to the news report ' Govt to spend Rs 1,000 crore to tone up power- infrastructure across state' (TGE, Oct 22). This is nothing new for the people of Goa, who for the past 15 years or more have been reading about how crores of rupees have been spent by the power department on underground cabling works in the state. Unfortunately, nothing appears to have changed for the better, as frequent power outages and breakdowns continue to bedevil the people of Goa. The bitter irony of it all is that it doesn't require more than a drizzle or light shower to cause these power disruptions. It is sad that a small state like Goa is unable to manage its power requirements satisfactorily, even after its first chief minster Dayanand Bandodkar laid the foundation stone for Goa's power infrastructure, 6 decades ago. And now it seems that even the much-touted solar power and green energy schemes to meet Goa's shortage of power are lying in limbo and embroiled in controversies.
