Of late several accidents are being reported on Goan roads. Incidentally a majority of the vehicles involved in the accidents are rental cars and two-wheelers driven by tourists. Tourists drive the vehicles in rash and negligent manner, most probably under the influence of alcohol, because they are aware that they do not lose anything if the car meets with an accident as the owner can claim insurance for the damage. Several videos have been appearing on social media of how local tourists misuse hired vehicles. They were seen standing at the door of the moving vehicle and indulging in stunts and in the case of a two-wheeler the pillion rider is seen seated facing backwards. In one such video tourists are seen dancing on the bonnet and the roof of the rented car. In the past tourists were seen driving the car onto the beach which ultimately got stuck in the sand. Tourists who drive the rented vehicles in a rash and negligent manner pose danger to other road users. Rented vehicles driven by tourists also need to be checked for drunken driving.
