Former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court Ferdino Rebello, who is leading the ‘Enough is Enough’ movement in the State, on Thursday urged the government to reconvene the Assembly session to take up pending bills and to discuss the Goa Protection of Agricultural Lands Act, 2026, following the cancellation of the Ponda by-poll election by the Bombay High Court at Goa.
He said that the earlier decision to cut short the House session, which was justified on the grounds of the by-poll and the Model Code of Conduct, is no longer valid. He has therefore asked the government to keep related applications on hold until the matter is discussed in the Assembly.
He also cautioned that if the session is not called and the applications are not kept in abeyance, his core committee may ask people across Goa to come together for a public protest.
It remains to be seen whether the government will reconvene the Assembly, as suggested by Rebello, or continue with its current approach without further discussion in the House. Rebello’s call has, however, added pressure on the government to resume the curtailed session and address the concerns raised.
