Relook into policy to scrap 15-yr old vehicles

The policy to scrap vehicles older than 15 years has been in existence but was not seriously applied. After 15 years the owner could take the refurbished vehicle for inspection and get a year more to use the vehicle. But now the government is keen to implement the rule to scrap 15-year old vehicles. This may be a good move since most times after a few years spare parts are unavailable, old vehicles cause more pollution, new models enter the market, fabrication materials and fixtures undergo innovations and so forth.

Considering that not everyone would be able to afford to buy a new vehicle and if annually the vehicle is certified to be in good condition, the government could permit the usage for another five years. The caveats could be that insurance’s premium would be doubled and in case of any mishaps the claim would be on a reduced from 16th to 20th year of the vehicle.
