The death of Goa’s long serving physician from Siolim Dr Datta Ramnath Naik (fondly called Dada), brought sadness to the Naik family but more to the lakhs of patients that he treated through the long years of his active life. He was the most sought after doctor by many patients who brought their dear ones for treatment. Most would say his touch brought speedy recovery to his patients. He gave more to the society as his day would start at 6am and go on till 2am. He would consult in Siolim and then proceed to Mapusa, after eating a hurried small lunch. For Dr Naik , people from every creed, caste or religion made no difference to him, his low cost medicines prescriptions and above all the human touch was liked by many who came from all parts of Goa. He is survived by his wife Sunita, 4 children Dr Smitha, Dr Guruprasad, Beena and Pranali and family. I hope his service to the Goan society will be acknowledged by the Goa government soon.
