During Portuguese ruled era, there was river navigation passenger transport from Panjim to Aldona and back. Today one can witness the jetties built at Malim, Britona, Orando-Madel-Chorao, Ekoshim, Pomburpa, Ambarim-Chorao, Calvim and Aldona where ferry launches used to dock.
Over the years they have stood the task of time and today some are on the brink of collapse because the authorities have turned a blind eye. During their good days (jetties) tourist boats and cruise boats docked, use to go in the villages for refreshment and for seeing hidden touristic spots.
Normally the jetties are the properties of the Captain of Ports but with no attention being paid to them they (jetties) are being used by locals to stand on the edge and dump all sorts of garbage including dead animals in the river, the reason the rivers have become a deadly mixed cocktail of pollution in all respects. About 30 years have passed since the fishermen's families cry due to depletion of fish catch. When they pull up their nets they get plastic waste and dead animals decomposed body parts.
As the previously built jetties are on the verge of going into the water, an appeal has been made to the government to develop them and lease to the entrepreneurs to do business of riverine attraction or otherwise demolish them to bring relief to the riverine pollution.
