The tom-tomming of the “rescue of a downed pilot” is an effort by US to smokescreen a much bigger fiasco that unfolded in Iran ; something more tragic than the Carter rescue plan, in which US lost a number of servicemen, back in the 70s. That mission was an unmitigated disaster.
Something similar unfolded in Iran over the past two days. The US boffins possibly sent special forces in to try and hijack Iranian nuclear material but the whole mission went South. It was possibly an insistence on getting this mission done, and the US Army Chief not agreeing to it, which got the latter fired. To cover up the debacle, US is unspooling the 'pilot rescue' narrative, while remaining silent on the losses. Truth of the matter is, the place where the aircraft were shot down is hundreds of miles away from where the pilot was supposedly rescued. The mission, instead, was to attack the Natanz nuclear facility. Iran has released images of the first US C-130 transport losses. There are clear marks of bullet holes in the airframe. At least 7 helicopters/ aircraft were lost in the botched operation.
