It is learnt that the Goa government has reportedly directed all the government primary schools to display pictures of teachers in order to prevent the practice of the teaching staff sending proxy on their behalf.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued instructions in this regard to concerned ADEI. This is a step in the right direction.
The picture of the teacher along with the identity needs to be displayed on the school notice-board. This is being done to combat the threat of impersonation of teachers in order to ensure the effective implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently reportedly flagged the issue of proxy teachers in village schools.
It must be said that impersonation of teachers in villages could be a reality as there may be no system in place to check the identity of the teachers every single day.
It would be desirable for the teachers to have a photo identity card hung around their neck when they are in the school premises.
Teachers should also be asked to sign the muster-roll every day. If a teacher sends a replacement to teach in the school, then necessary action needs to be taken against the concerned teacher.
