Yet again one more life has been snuffed out in an accident which was avoidable. In a tragic incident a 38- year-old housewife, a mother of two little children from Sanguem, reportedly lost her life due to a roadside tree uprooting and falling on the four-wheeler which she was driving on the last day of her training in driving.
There have been several such fatal incidents reported in the state in the past. Incidentally, such incidents of trees falling are taking place even during the dry season when there is no rainfall and strong breeze. This only goes to show that these old trees have outlived their lives and need to be brought down.
The old trees which are present along the roadside need to be cut and those trees which have their branches over the roads should be trimmed. The local authorities and the electricity department need to work in tandem in this regard.
The authorities should request the landowners to cut down the old trees which are present in their property. If no action is taken by the landowner even after several intimations, then it would be prudent for the local authorities to act and cut down the dangerous tree with police protection.
