On July 25, monsoon session of the Assembly discussed tourism in Goa. After mining sector being closed tourism sector is the only hope for Goa to generate revenue and employment to locals. Vasco MLA Krishna Dagi Salkar raised the issue of Vasco city being neglected by government. The city has port, airport, railway station but is only for tourists to alight and board transportation to reach destinations.Vasco was one of the first to have casino opposite Kharevaddo for those who embarked from ships. Mormugao taluka also has Baina beach which can be developed for tourists. Margao MLA Digambar Kamat suggested a better view outside Vasco railway station which will attract tourists. The MLAs voiced concern over drugs being promoted in Goa along with tourism which affects local youth who fall prey to drugs. The chief minister assured the house to give instructions to ANC anti-narcotic cell to identify the spots and take action. Goa is known for scenic beauty, sun and sand. The Goan culture and art should be priority in tourism development which will help locals to showcase their talents.
