The liturgical services in the Catholic church on Good Friday this year took on a new form in different parishes due to pandemic restrictions, because of which there were even 3 church services in some parishes instead of the customary single one, to cope with the thousands in the parish. A notable feature this year was the public veneration of the crucifix which was conducted smoothly and in a short time without deviating or contravening the stipulated liturgical norms of the universal church. While in some churches the crucifix was held high and taken around the church by the parish priest for people to worship, the Church of the Holy Family in Porvorim for instance, witnessed a different form of worship, where social distancing of around 6 feet was maintained between the devotee and the crucifix which was kept on the floor, in front of the altar, and people queued up to worship without kissing or touching the crucifix, unlike in earlier days. This also helped to shorten the church service to a great extent.
