Being a frequent visitor to the Dr Francisco Luis Gomes library, it was distressing to note that nothing is being done to prevent leakage of water from the central skylight and dampness in interior walls. Infact rubber mats and buckets are kept below the skylight to trap water when it rains. Many valuable books and manuscripts are housed there and the library is being extensively used by students and bibliophiles alike, it is feared that they will be damaged if measures to check the ingress of water are not taken in right earnest. Also during rains, the exposed main entrance steps finished in kota stone turn very slippery, it is suggested that a canopy be installed over the steps to prevent accidents. This prestigious repository of knowledge has to be cared for properly.
