Goa seems to be on the attack from various fronts mainly facilitated by ruling Goan politicians whose priorities seem to be maximising personal wealth at any cost. The latest one I read with disbelief lately is that the Chief town planner can now tweak the Regional Plan (RP) at the Govt's prompt particularly constructions laws can waived for "Housing policies". With prominent studies warning that Goa's environment is getting devastated, water tables contaminated/reduced, air polluted etc why is the Goa Govt so hell bent on more "housing" when it is very clear that most of this housing is not for Goans. On one hand, the Goa Govt is making these modifications and on the other hand where there are set laws there is absolutely no checks/strict punishments/heavy fines on those who are destroying sand dunes/hills/burning forests(most recently the Dabolim Forest fires!) all with the purpose of pushing more land into real estate development! And to add more misery now the Goa govt is moving to legalise illegal structures set up in clear violation of the standing laws at that time.
The Goa goverment keeps on proclaiming that their priority is to preserve Goa's environment, beauty, clean air, water tables, etc but their actions are the exact opposite. Goans need to wake up and smell the coffee and not be so complacent in allowing these corrupt MLAs to do as they wish; if at all we have the intent to save what is left of Goa!
