Whenever a top leader invites people for “talks”, it effectively means that the protestors are expected to say “yes, sir”, and that all terms will ultimately be settled in favour of the Unity Mall project. There is little doubt about the outcome of such so-called consultations.
The start of any major project today seems to amount to nothing more than the transfer of land or property in favour of the government. This is bound to happen in Goa as well, given the vast extent of comunidade land and evacuee property. Goa's future looks bleak if we seriously analyse to whom land has gone and for what real purpose.
Locals are the least benefited from these so-called development projects. Hundreds of flats and villas are being constructed, yet local buyers are not interested because they are not greedy and do not wish to accumulate excess or unnecessary wealth. As a result of these developments, many Goans are now living in distress, and some are even being forced to migrate in search of a better life.
