There is growing anger among Goans towards the ruling ministers due to the widespread sale and destruction of Goa’s land, environment, and ecosystems. Much of this is to benefit crony capitalists and mega real estate developers from outside Goa. The government has used various methods, including intimidation, to silence activists who oppose these actions. However, recent developments show growing unity across Goa, with communities coming together to resist.
In response, we are now witnessing attempts to divide Goans along communal lines. This includes opposition to the Julus procession in Canacona, despite it being allowed in other parts of Goa like Margao, as well as Subhash Velingkar’s communal remarks against St Francis Xavier. Additionally, BJP spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar has labelled most activists as extortionists, attempting to discredit those standing up for Goa.
These divisive tactics are a distraction from the real issue”the destruction of Goa by corrupt politicians. Goans must stay united, regardless of religious affiliations, to oppose these destructive agendas. Falling for communal bait will only benefit those in power and lead to further harm to Goa. Let’s focus on what truly matters for our state’s future.
