Though the article with title "Who can you trust for news' that was published yesterday stresses only social media platforms, we should also include prime-time and established news agencies in this debate. India ranks 157th out of 180 countries in the 2026 World Press Freedom Index published by Reporters Without Borders, which remains classified in the "very serious" category. Contradicting or refusing to accept that ranking does not refute the claim. The people of our country are facing a lot of problems related to access to clean air, water and food, inflation, corruption, infrastructure, women's safety and criminal gangs. And people want to discuss this and their voice is the media. But seldom do we hear about all of this on prime time. Prime-time news anchors are busy villainizing activists, opposition and individuals who question these issues. Fake news is one challenge, but the biggest challenge is biased reporting — and not just by social media journalists but also by prime-time news agencies owned by capitalists.
