In view of the recent rape in Vasco of a seven year old girland the protests that ensued, we asked people from Goa their thoughts andsuggestions about how schools can be made safe and what is lacking
After the recent rape that occurred in Delhi, the entirenation is on the edge. And to know that a similar crime has happened in Goa,brings a lot of shame to the state. That security was lax and no urgency inhandling the matter shows an issue that needs to be addressed. - AshishPednekar, Software Developer
The notion that Goan schools are safe places for ourchildren has been shattered by a heinous crime against a student in schoolproperty. The lack of well-trained security staff at schools and theindifference of authorities towards this matter makes it worse. It is sad thatauthorities only wake up when something bad happens to our children and it istoo late. - Caslino Pereira, Businessperson
I feel disgusted after hearing about the rape of a minor inschool. It’s high time that men change their attitude in view of the incidentsin India in general and Goa in particular. Every school needs to have tightsecurity and strangers should not be allowed in the premises. We form thesociety, and we need to take a stand against such acts. - Azhar Khwaja, SeniorBusiness Analyst
Since the headmistress is responsible for the overallrunning of the school, she should have imposed strict measures on the securityof the school and all who work at the school. The influx of migrants has alsoraised issues of security. - Hemangi Naik, Software Engineer
