FDA (Goa) on several occasions carries out surprise raids on eateries, hotels and restaurants. Their actions are truly commendable if they are done with sincere intentions and in accordance with the rule of law.
Why does the FDA withhold the names of these eateries, hotels and restaurants? Something does not meet the eye. If the FDA is serious about its actions, then total transparency is needed to disclose the names of these so-called violators. Some of these violators are habitual offenders and have absolutely no fear of the law. They are ready to pay the mandatory fine and do business as usual.
Food adulteration, unhygienic kitchen conditions and workers’ health conditions are very important aspects to look into. The FDA must upload the detailed site inspection report and the relevant tests carried out on its official portal so that the general public can make an informed decision.
There is a high increase in cancer and other lifestyle diseases in the State of Goa. Some illnesses may be directly attributed to the consumption of junk food available at these eateries, hotels and restaurants.
Finally, the FDA should widen its raids to include daily fish and meat sellers too. Developed countries take food for human consumption very seriously. There is no possibility of bending the rules. Take the case of Japan.
If we need to be declared a developed country by the year 2047, then the serious implementation of FDA rules and regulations, including the naming and shaming of eateries, hotels and restaurants, should be the top priority.
