With the delay in the monsoon, people from different faiths are now praying for rain. While respecting everyone’s belief in God and the power of prayer, I also believe that we must do our part to protect nature. For many years, environmental activists in Goa have warned that the destruction of hills, forests and trees, along with the filling of fields and low-lying areas, could lead to water shortages. However, not many people have supported these efforts or spoken out against the unchecked concretisation of Goa. As the saying goes, we reap what we sow. If we remain indifferent and fail to support measures that protect our environment, we may all have to face the consequences, and so will future generations.
