Despite it being the monsoon season in Goa, there has been little or no rain. Dam water levels are falling, and hardworking farmers are anxiously waiting for showers to revive the dry land. Rainwater is a precious resource that replenishes groundwater, fills rivers and reservoirs, supports agriculture, maintains soil fertility, and helps cleanse the atmosphere. Without adequate rainfall, water scarcity increases, affecting drinking water supplies, crop production, and biodiversity. Air, water and food are essential for life, and the delay in rainfall threatens these vital resources.
Let us unite in prayer to the Almighty for timely rains to rejuvenate our land and support our farmers. While the government focuses on new projects and population growth, environmental destruction is often overlooked, affecting the health and well-being of Goa’s people. The rainy season brings greenery and new life. Children eagerly await the chance to float paper boats, while many of us miss the croaking of frogs, flowing streams, and the beauty that the rains bring.
