Corruption remains a major public concern, and the Goa Police face a serious challenge in maintaining public trust. Past cases involving alleged border check-post extortion, bribery for postings, the Colva scrap dealer case and digital GPay bribes point to recurring patterns of corruption and institutional failures. The Home Department’s decision to direct the DGP to conduct an independent inquiry into allegations against the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) reflects the seriousness of the issue. While every officer deserves a fair inquiry, claims of bribery, abuse of authority, cover-ups and favouritism cannot be ignored. A high-level probe is needed to establish the truth and restore public confidence.
