Waterlogged surroundings of Benaulim p’yat ghar

Every monsoon, the area in front of the Benaulim panchayat ghar gets waterlogged, presenting great difficulties to the public using the building. The building also houses the village post office and a milk outlet, which is frequented by hundreds of individuals every day. Oftentimes, mosquito larvae are seen breeding in the stagnant water, leading to the danger of the spread of dengue and other vector-borne diseases. We have already witnessed this at the Margao town police station. It would be prudent to either pave the area or concrete it. Also, some trees need to be planted in the bare surroundings. Unfortunately, representations to the local MLA and another local wannabe politician have yielded no results. Perhaps the panchayat itself will take some initiative.

The coastal villages of Goa are drowning in a sea of garbage, but Benaulim seems to be specially affected. There is one particular spot on the beach road where the trash pile seems to be constantly expanding. During monsoons, the area stinks to high heavens and is problematic for pedestrians.
