When law protectors turn law breakers

“If courts don't step in, police get a licence to do anything under political masters.”In a powerful and tense courtroom exchange, Sr Adv Gopal Sankaranarayanan raised grave concerns before the Chief Justice regarding the unchecked use of force during student protests. The arguments brought a critical issue to light: Unidentified individuals in police gear using excessive, unauthorized force against innocent citizens without any accountability.This raises a fundamental question about our democracy. When those who are supposed to uphold the law are accused of breaking it under political cover, the judiciary stands as the final pillar of hope and protection for the common man. The demand for a strict judicial inquiry is a reminder that no one, not even the state machinery, is above the law. But alas India is now firmly in the grip of an authoritarian regime and things are not going to improve anytime soon.
