The power of the feminine comes to life at the Gallery Gitanjali in Panaji’s stunningly beautiful Latin Quarter, which is hosting ‘Flow of Power’, a ‘power-packed’ exhibition of the singular works of Katharina Kakkar all across the month of March.
‘Flow of Power’ includes 20 works of Kakkar, which examines in great depth the feminine psyche, its enduring and sustained confrontation with boundaries of patriarchy in direct and subtle forms. ‘Flow of Power’ also gauges the importance of Shakti (strength), Sensuality and Sexuality.
Kakkar believes that in the twenty works of art which are on display, she has played the role of an outsider as well as an insider, archaeologist and a social observer as well as a troubadour and a holder of women’s innermost secrets.
Katharina Kakkar is a writer who lives in Goa, India. She studied Comparative Religion, Anthropology and Indian Art History at the Freie Universität (Free University), Berlin/Germany, where she took her master’s degree (1995) and her doctorate (2001) in Comparative Religion.
In 1991 she worked as an executive tour-guide of various Indian groups during the Festival of India in Germany and between 1990 and 1996 as a museums guide for special exhibitions as well as for the permanent collection of the Museum of Indian Art, Berlin. Further, she was a free-lance project assistant in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures), Berlin, where she worked for five years on different projects in the field of dance and music. In 1995 she was the project manager of the cultural festival Indien Verstehen (Understanding India), a one-month-event with exhibitions, music, dance, cinema and lectures on India in KITO, a cultural institute in Bremen, Germany.
