Concept
To err is human and to forgive is divine! But what is to be done to the person responsible for the misfortunes in the family? There is a double faced black sheep in the family who not only syphons the family wealth but is the reason for the death of the offspring in the quest of enjoying life. Karma has a great role play and when the black sheep is at the receiving end, the only words that greet the black sheep is ‘get lost’!
Script
The tiatr script is simple and moves on expected lines. The sequences of development of the plot are expected and predictable. There are cantos with good lyrics and melody too. However the script is like the Sunday church service where the priest gives a sermon at every available opportunity. The comedy has no link to the plot.
Acting
Pierson as the lead actor is very convincing and natural. Candida D’Souza is too artificial in her acting. Moreover, her costumes make her a mismatch for the role. Francis de Raia is a good villain lover boy. Wils Silveira plays the elder brother with ease. His flair for naturality makes him the sheet anchor of the play. Candida Mascarenhas is superb as the lady with the walker but forgets that she is the mother of two grown up sons in the last two scenes. Milagres excels in a cameo but doesn’t reveal what is his relationship with the characters in the plot to undertake a massive u-turn in the events unfolding on stage. Arnaldo Costa is in a double, first as the police officer and then as a goon; and excels in both.
Music
The tiatr band music is led by the young Selvin Menezes with the veteran Theo Alvares playing second trumpet. The music is well written and very pleasing and soothing to the ears. The opening song by Peviola, Alika, Juvency and Scully render the opening song in style. There are interesting solos from Francis de Raia, Peviola, Juvency & Candida. However the pick of the singers was the young Daylan who deserved an encore. Another duet by two young singers on the murder of the two children by their dad in North Goa was well received. However besides a duet, there are no songs of interactive nature.
Comedy
The line of comedy runs parallel to the story with no scenes interspaced in the plot. The comedy in the play is clean but bereft of good punchlines and the likes of Comedian John de Silva, Nato, Alicka and the new sensation David could do nothing that could elevate the comedy section from mere smiles.
Backstage
The sets are good and apt for the tiatr. The sets speak of a class and a decent effort was made by placing two steel chairs and a teapoy but the plastic chair of the hall paupered the grandiosity of the set and punctured the beauty. The light effects were good. The background musical score by Richard was decent and effective and backed up the proceedings on stage.
Direction
The Direction in the tiatr lacked depth. The director lacked knowledge of tiatr which ran for over 4 hours. The height of it was the sermons given by the director during the interludes of the song which was irritating to the ears. There was good coordination of the backstage team with the artistes.
Reviewers Take
A decent tiatr that can be viewed by a family with a caution to leave your logic and thinking mind out of the auditorium.
