Music to the ears

Acclaimed new movie musical La La Land has topped Rolling Stone magazine's annual list of best films. Here's a look at a few other musicals that viewers can't get enough of

Sound of Music

This one definitely tops the list in terms of all time favorite flicks. And even 50 years down the line, one can't help but be caught up with the infectious nature of Julia Andrews' cheerful Maria. While the nuns lament about how to solve a problem like Maria? , you just want to hop and skip along with Maria whether she is running around the hills or helping the kids to get over the fear of a storm. Tunes like My Favorite Things and Sixteen Going on Seventeen are some popular tunes from this movie

Grease

Featuring the ever popular John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, this film and it's subsequent sequel also continue to be favorite films today. You just want to belt out Summer Nights together with the lead cast or swing with them to You're the One that I want. Michelle Pfeiffer's I need a cool Rider in Grease 2 is another popular tune.

High School Musical

If you were born in the 90's, you've definitely spent a part of your teenage years grooving to the tunes from the three High School Musical films which were responsible for bringing Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens into the limelight. Also, you pretty much wished you went to that school at some point before you tired of the films. Tunes like Start of Something New, Breaking Free and We're all in the together will still get you instantly singing when played on the radio even today though.

Mamma Mia!

One more all time favorite, this 2008 flick starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan etc featured Abba tunes weaved together in a story of a girl’s dream to discover the true identity of her father. Whether it was Meryl Streep and her girl group dancing to Super Trouper or Dancing Queen or Amanda Seyfried running through the hills singing Honey Honey, this truly is a gem of a movie.

My Fair Lady

The rain in Spain may fall mainly on the plain, but it's plain to see that Audrey Hepburn absolutely kills it in this 1964 adaptation of the classic Broadway musical which see's Rex Harrison's egotistical professor embark on a musical mission to turn a lower class girl into an upper class lady. A delightful romance and a must-see for any Hepburn devotee.
