The television series that lies at the center of National Geographic’s ambitious program is a different kind of TV show. Mars tells a scripted story of the first manned mission to Mars set in the year 2033. Unscripted interviews with more than 20 experts who discuss all manner of things related to carrying out a manned Mars mission are interspersed throughout the scripted portions of the show. The result is an uncommonly well-grounded science fiction story. After the 6-episode run is over, the series will be available for free streaming for two months beginning December 24 on NatGeo VOD Channel, Android, iOS, etc.
