The much awaited nominations for the 2017 Grammys are out! The 59th annual awards which will be hosted by funny man James Corden on February 17, saw Beyonce dominating the list with nine nominations in all. However the four top categories are Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist. Beyonce and Adele are the only two artists too feature in three of these top categories. Apart from these three however, Adele managed only one other nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Along with Adele and Beyoncé, the Album of the Year category (the awards’ most prestigious) features Drake, Justin Bieber, and alt-country artist Sturgill Simpson.

Other nominations include five for David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar; two for comedian Amy Schumer (Comedy Album and Spoken-Word Album for the audio version of her book), and two separate nominations for the score from Stranger Things.

Historic moment

Chance the Rapper created history as his 13-song Coloring Book project are in contention for snagging multiple awards including Best Rap Album, making it the first streaming-only album to receive a Grammy nomination. Coloring Book has been history since its release in May. It reached No. 8 on Billboard’s charts and was credited as the first streaming-exclusive album to ever do so with over 57 million streams its first week, equating to 38,000 units sold.

A strange victory

Danish band Lukas Graham have earned nominations for the Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Group Performance. And with it being a first for them, it was definitely a moment to celebrate. However frontman Lukas Forchhammer admits that the moment of learning about the nominations wasn't very glamourous for him “I was changing my baby’s nappy [diaper] when I was told.I came back in from a truck stop and I was changing a diaper while I was being nominated for a Grammy. So that was a little bit of a strange victory situation right there.”

Ariana's heart is falling out

Ariana Grande who was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for Dangerous Woman had a hilarious reaction to the news. The star too to Twitter to write "My heart is falling out of my ass." She then followed it up writing, "what an absolute blessing to be recognized for Dangerous Woman this way."

Rock or Pop?

In somewhat of a surprise move, Twenty One Pilots whose hit Heathens has been making waves everywhere is up against Disturbed, David Bowie, the Alabama Shakes and Beyoncé for Best Rock Performance. At the same time, their hit "Stressed" Out" is up against Sia, Rihanna, the Chainsmokers and Lukas Graham in Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Because Bey rocks?:

Among her many nominations, Beyonce has earned a mention in the Best Rock Performance on the Lemonade track "Don't Hurt Yourself" This move has got people talking because while it does have some drums and aggro attack, it still sounds more R&B than rock.
