198 bottles of liquor worth Rs 5 lakh seized from truck at Patradevi

An excise team on Monday seized liquor bottles worth Rs 5 lakh hidden in paint buckets in the cargo of a truck at the Patradevi check post.   

According to Pernem Excise Inspector Durgesh Naik, the excise team had stopped the truck (MH-18-M-6680), which was proceeding with paint buckets from Kundaim to Ahmedabad, as part of a routine inspection.   

When excise officers demanded documents from the driver, he gave them the papers and fled from the site.   

Suspecting something unusual, the officers inspected the truck and found 198 whiskey bottles hidden in the paint buckets. The excise team has seized the liquor bottles and the truck, as investigations are underway. 

Earlier this month, excise department officials from Sattari on Thursday seized an illegal liquor consignment worth around Rs 9.3 lakh which was headed to Karnataka, at the Keri checkpost. Earlier, on April 20, excise officials from Sattari seized illegal liquor worth Rs 8 lakh that was headed to Karnataka.
