She was upset with me because I didn’t wish her on facebook

A virtual mess

I am writing to you because my relationship is on the rocks and I don’t know what to do. I had an amazing day planned for my girlfriend on February 14. We were supposed to have lunch at her favourite restaurant in Panaji, then watch a movie and later head to the beach and watch the sun set. But, when I picked her up she was acting aloof and distracted. She didn’t enjoy herself and only later told me that she was upset with me because I didn’t wish her on facebook. All her friends were wishing their loved ones on facebook. I found that stupid. Now she says she is rethinking our relationship. We have been together for two years.

Rahul D’Souza

Dear Rahul,

Rahul, you are a smart smart man who deserves so much more. I woke up on Valentine’s Day to find my facebook timeline full of sappy messages to people’s loved ones. I remembered that I had to wish my wife, so I turned around and did so. People who wish their partners on facebook or social media instead of actually saying it and not involving the entire world in something so private are just doing it to show off. That and they’re getting too caught up in this virtual world. As much as it hurts to read this, you need to move on. You, sir, have a functioning brain that is meant for bigger and better things. There is someone out there who will not want you to wish her on facebook. Just remember not to look for her in the ‘People You May Know’ list.

Virtually yours,

Antsy Uncle

I was going out with a boy since high school and everything was fine for many years. We would meet up in school, then again for tuition and sometimes even hold hands and walk home together. Then during our first year in college he suddenly dumped me. I was given no reason whatsoever and he began ignoring me completely. After a few months I learned that he was seeing a common friend. We go to the same college so I would spot him and his new girlfriend around campus from time to time. I was heart-broken but tried my best to move on. I met another boy whom I (maybe) like and my ex happened to see us hugging one day. He got mad and approached me yelling that he wanted to beat up the new guy because he had his "grubby little hands" on me. He said he misses me and wants us to be 'friends'. However, he does not want us to get back together.

Caught-in-between

Dear

Erm. And this is a problem why exactly? Your ex-boyfriend is basically a selfish fart who wants you hanging on for his own pleasure and you are actually caught in between? Here’s what you do. Walk up to a mirror. Point at yourself and say, ‘You’re an idiot!” Once you’ve done that, you go meet this new boy, who you (maybe) like and (maybe) hang with him, until he (maybe) likes you back, so you two can (maybe) go out, get married and (maybe) have babies.

Seriously now,

Antsy Uncle

I've had a crush on this boy in my class for a long time and I recently confessed my feelings for him. Turns out he likes me too. However, the problem is his best friend also likes me so he doesn't want to go out with me. I really want to date him but I don't want to be the reason that their friendship suffers. What should I do?

Confused soul

Dear Confused-ious

Wow, this is like every bad college movie that never made it at the box office for precisely this reason, the plot sucked! You have a few options. Wait for them to grow up a bit, perhaps they’ll start using their brains somewhere during that time and you’ll get the boy/man of your dreams. Or, you can realise that this is college and the best friend will probably fall in love with some girl that catches his fancy soon. These are college boys with raging hormones. Don’t you have a best friend or an almost best friend who is single and ready to mingle? Fix her up with your crush’s best friend. Problem solved. Seriously, I could answer these questions in my sleep.

5 things you didn’t know about... Meghan Trainor

Even at the tender age of 7, Meghan Trainor had already tapped into her creative songwriting ability. After learning the classic song, “Heart and Soul” on the piano, a young Meghan used the instrumental to write lyrics to her first song about how happy she was that her aunt married a Trinidadian man. After writing her first song at 7, Meghan caught the songwriting bug and began showing off her songwriting abilities everywhere she went, even at the zoo. She wrote it in her…
