Singing about elections

Singing about elections
Captured by : pg 2- lead

The recent US elections was one of the most closely watched and debated events of the year and saw Donald Trump emerging as the victor but not without much disappointment and shock even among a lot of celebrities who has been pretty vocal about their support for Hillary Clinton. In fact Trump who came under a lot of fire for using songs without permission for his campaign, also became the subject of a lot of songs which took digs at him. Here's a look at a few

Willow Smith

Willow Smith became the most recent celebrity to pen a song about the presidential electionss as she shared November 9th on Soundcloud as a response to the results. Willow stated that she wrote the song a day after the elections were out. "Baby girl, I know you're tired / Don't let the world put out your fire / Take my hand and you will see / Sadness and anger aren't everything," she gently croons.

Nicki Minaj

To celebrate her pals Rae Sremmurd’s no. 1hit Black Beatles, Nicki Minaj released a remix of the song called Black Barbies. While she references plenty of famous people in the remix, including El Chapo, Joan Rivers, and Fetty Wap, her Donald Trump mention that stands out the most with lines like, “island girl, Donald Trump want me go home,” followed a little later by “now I’m prayin’ all my foreigns don’t get deported”.

Eminem

In the run up to the elections, Eminem who hadn't released any music in awhile released a new track, Campaign Speech, with an explicit reference to the Trump campaign. “Consider me a dangerous man, But you should be afraid of this dang candidate , he raps. “You say Trump don’t kiss a** like a puppet?, Cause he runs his campaign with his own cash for the funding?, And that’s what you wanted?, A f**kin’ loose cannon who’s blunt with his hand on the button , Who doesn’t have to answer to no one? , Great idea!”

Green Day

Although American Idiot was written way back in 2004, Green Day repurposed the song to fit 2016 politics during their recent performance at the MTV EMA Awards.“Can you hear the sounds of hysteria?” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sang, before changing the next line. “The subliminal mind Trump America.” (The original line is “The subliminal mind f” America.”)

Aimee Mann

Aimee Mann also lent her talent to the anti-Trump brigade when she released Can't You Tell, a first-person reflection on what Mann suspects Trump may be thinking during his campaign. "I had heard a theory that Trump’s interest in running for president was really kicked off at the 2011 White House Correspondent’s dinner when President Obama basically roasted him, so that’s where I started. And my own feeling was that it wasn’t really the job itself he wanted, but the thrill of running and winning, and that maybe it had all gotten out of hand and was a runaway train that he couldn’t stop," she said. "Isn't anybody going to stop me?/I don't want this job.../Can't you tell/I'm unwell," read the lyrics.

Adia Victoria

South Carolina native Adia Victoria was also part of the anti Trump brigade when she released an acoustic ballad Backwards Blues where she expresses her distaste for the “dangerous” Trump and her personal struggle accepting his massive following when she sings “I might be okay if I couldn’t say, He was speaking to half of us.” “Perhaps the greatest irony is how a campaign fueled by outright lies reveals a deep-seated kernel of truth of what far too many Americans hold up as sacred: massive wealth, the sway of celebrity, branding, power, and greed,” Victoria said. “I don’t want to say that he’s the president we deserve, yet here we are.”

Iceland has the world's largest penis museum

Size doesn't matter at the Icelandic Phallological Museum, home to the world's largest collection of penises which has an eye-watering array of specimens carefully collected from hundreds of different animals. "I came to see if it was true, that there really was a penis museum in Reykjavik," American tourist Jerry Anderson said, smiling as he stared at the phallus of a sperm whale, the largest specimen in the museum. Preserved in formaldehyde inside a huge plexiglass case at…
