3, an exhibition of photographs by Jayant Joshi will open on November 25 at Museum of Goa, Pilerne. Born in Pune to classical musicians, Jayant Joshi, was conditioned early on to appreciate the organism of music. His artistic practice, therefore, embodies visual renditions of an innate sonic language. 3, is the third installment in Joshi's collection of photographs that magnify texture and form while simultaneously isolating context. The abstractions catalog understated elements such as rust on metal and grooves in concrete, which illuminate a web of materials and elements that are interconnected by organic synergy yet remain functionally distinctive.
Each work is vibrant in color and understated in form. Much like musical chords, they encapsulate a pyramid of textural layers that are interconnected and yet distinctly autonomous. Joshi describes each photograph with a poem, thus mirroring visual metronome with literary streams of consciousness.
The collection consists of frames that blur ordinary forms not through distortion but through perspective. The magnified images focus closely on random structures. In altering detectable context, the artist limits familiar associations of objects and spaces. Thus, the works permit only instinctive observations of implicit orchestras contained in prosaic composition.
