Since ages books have been the real partners of humanbeings. They have always been proven to be a source of knowledge and learning.Though silent, insensitive and non-living but even then the company providedby them is beyond praise and incomparable. Books have always been goodcompanions in both good and bad phases of life of people. They have always beenimpartial as far as their friendship is concerned. They are the same for bothrich as well as poor. Robert Southey, an avid lover of books wrote:
“My never failing friends are they,
With whom I converse day by day,
With them I take delight in weal,
And seek relief in woe.”
Books are great source of entertainment and recreation.Close company of books and reading them dedicatedly with interest adds a lot toour knowledge and cognizance. Books are of many types and it is the interest ofan individual which he finds the most interesting to spend time with. Some lovereading novels, some are passionate about current magazines, and some are fondof articles and quotation related books. Library considered as the temple ofbooks. Lover of books finds calm and a quiet environment to interact with thebooks effectively there. Library is a place of peace, solitude and serenity.Hours can be spent in the library reading books. A person returning home afterspending a couple of hours in the library feels relaxed and filled withknowledge. J.B. Macaulay once said, “I would rather be a poor man in a garretwith plenty of books then a king who did not love reading”. Books provide uscompany in both good and bad times. They are vested with several entertainingand interesting topics that refresh our mind. Whenever we are little depressed, there are several books that boost us and encourage us at that bad juncture oflife. We get to learn from the writings of many famous personalities how torecover from difficult situations. If we look into our career point of view, books keeps up abreast with current affairs and provides us with each and everysubject to prepare for the competitive. Their friendship is so selfless and purethat they do not demand their reader nothing in return. They just want readerto have sincere dedication towards them. Since our Kindergarten days books haveproven to be our most faithful friends and have always been helping in everycircumstance. Books are the pearls of wisdom. Many times when we travel by busor train, books provides a best time pass and a good source of entertaining ourself. Reading magazines, comics and novels in such journeys really makes thejourney short and easy instead of tire journeys. Choice and content of thebooks is also of first and foremost importance. It is very essential what typeand quality of books you read. If you develop the habit of reading poor qualityand inferior books that will contaminate your thoughts and instead ofincreasing your knowledge that will have adverse result. So be qualitative inbooks selection.Beacon felt, “Reading maketh a full man”. As exercise is to thebody reading books is to the mind. Consistent reading of good books keeps yourmind more fresh and alert and updated too.
Books are the most sincere, faithful and never fallingfriends. Everybody may deceive you but books will always remain beside duringyour bad times. Books are your friends, teachers and guides as well. Justreading a book is of no use until it is properly understood with interest.Books always want its reader to gain something from it. It wants to impartknowledge. “Life is a flower, Reading books is to smell it”. Epics likeMahabharatha, Ramayana have always been a source of inspiration to all of usand keeping our culture alive till now and acquainting us all with it. The holybooks like, Gita, Bible, Quran, guru Garanth Sahib teach us about the differentreligions which would otherwise have not been possible. We cannot even imaginethe importance the books plays in our life. Thorough knowledge of these booksand implementing them has taken many towards enlightenment. Thus books purifyour thoughts and also make our thoughts pious. So, I feel that one shouldalways enjoy the company of books and regard the selfless nature of the booksto each and every individual.
