Opposition sees red in the plea made by the ruling BJP headed by State President Damubab Naik to clean up the electoral rolls ahead of the  2027 Assembly polls. In fact, opposition claimed a similar demand was raised by the saffron brigade in other states that had gone to the Assembly polls since last year. The exercise, they claim, had resulted in de-franchising thousands of voters, especially in Delhi, to the advantage of the ruling party. Political observers, however, wonder whether the opposition parties are geared up to meet the challenge of sorts. Wait and watch.

Can ruling or Oppn parties form

govt on their own in 2027?

Assembly elections may be still 20 months away in 2027, but posturing by political parties seemed the flavour of the season. First, Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishibai Marlena vowed to go solo in the upcoming Goa polls. The Congress did not lag behind. Congress Goa Secretary Dr Anjalibai went to town saying the party rank and file is against alliance. The ruling BJP seemed to have now joined the bandwagon, becoming the latest party, promising to contest in all 40 constituencies. Goemkars have a simple question to ask -- can the ruling or the opposition parties think of forming a government on its own without alliances or tie-ups in 2027?

CM maintains silence on rewarding

Digambar with Cabinet berth

Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant was in town last week, but he did not shed light on the much-talked about Cabinet rejig and whether Congress turncoat Diggu would be finally rewarded with a Cabinet berth for the 2022 defection. The Chief Minister, however, promised to usher development on Diggu’s home turf. To set at rest any speculations on the development front, Pramodbab reminded he has made budgetary provision for the restoration of city’s heritage, including the Portuguese-era Margao Municipal building at the instance of the Cong-turned-BJP MLA.  Any questions?

Aleixo celebrates quiet birthday

with family and relatives

Saxtti lone Minister Aleixobab Sequeira seemed to have celebrated a quiet birthday earlier this week with family and relatives. There was no public celebration of his birthday in his home constituency Nuvem. And, if his close aides are to be believed, the political heavyweight was out of station along with close relatives. In fact, the Congress-turned-BJP Nuvem MLA skipped his weekly Friday darbar in the South Collectorate and was also conspicuous by his absence at the BJP Sammelan in Margao attended by Chief Minister Pramodabab Sawant.
