Goa Congmen back home but leadership suspense persists

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JULY 25, 2021, 12:32 AM IST

Congress rank and file seemed keeping their fingers crossed over the outcome of Rahul Gandhi’s one-on-one interaction with party leaders. No one seemed to have any idea of how the High Command will address the leadership issue. Even leaders, who had a meeting with Rahul Gandhi, seemed to be in a similar quandary, waiting for the outcome of the Delhi exercise. Party leaders, including Reginaldbab, MP Sardinhabab, and Luizinhbab have all returned home. Opposition Leader Digambar had stayed put for a day to call on AICC leaders, is also back in the State. Wait and watch whether AICC in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao will bring in any news on the leadership issue during his next visit to Goa.

Will Cong build up party before forging ties?

Indications emanating from the Congress camp in the national capital say the principal opposition party may not be opposed to taking on board other like-minded parties together for the 2022 polls. The moot question, however, remains unanswered -- how the party will go about the job, whether the party will first go in for party building and then talk about alliances. It’s also not clear if the party will draft a leader for the job to explore possibility of forging an electoral alliance. Wait and watch as answers to these questions may come once the Congress takes a final on the leadership tangle.

Churchill visits Delhi spot where church was razed

Many an eyebrow was raised in Saxtti political circles when Varca strongman Bab Churchill and ladli Valanka headed to Delhi when Congress leaders had an audience with Rahul Gandhi. Soon after landing at Delhi, Churchill claimed he had a meeting with NCP supremo Sharad Pawar. Take note, Churchillbab did call on Pawar, but he had another agenda during his itinerary. Taking everyone by surprise, the Churchil-Valanka duo descended on the very spot where the Church was razed down a week ago. Wait and watch whether the visit will find its echo in Benaulim, where Churchillbab is bracing up for AAP challenge in 2022.

Who said Cong will struggle to touch double digit?

Who’s this Congress leader, who was point blank in conveying a clear message to the party High command that the party may struggle to touch the double digit figure in the 2022 Assembly election? Well, it could not be ascertained who spoke what during the one-on-one interaction Congress leaders had with Rahul Gandhi. But, this leader is believed to have told his well-wishers that he put across his views to Rahul Gandhi that the Congress may struggle to cross the double digit mark in 2022 if the party settles for status quo vis-à-vis the leadership. Any takers?

Pratima’s charity in Nuvem: It’s food for thought

When AAP leader Pratimabai Coutinho moved door-to-door, distributing essential food items in Navelim, one bag reached the doorsteps of a government official staying in the same locality. Whether Pratimabai was aware of the fact or not, the officer was the very same executive Magistrate, who had lodged FIR against her for violating Covid norms at Nuvem. She had sounded critical of the executive magistrate for bowing down to political pressure. It could not be ascertained whether Pratimabai had delivered the bag containing the food items with love or had no idea that the house belonged to the executive magistrate.
