Rare opposition bonhomie at Shree Krishna Vijayutsav

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | 25th October, 12:12 am

Political observers must have been taken aback — and their rivals rattled — when leaders of the Congress, Goa Forward, and Revolutionary Goans were seen holding hands at the SGPDA grounds during Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai’s Shree Krishna Vijayutsav celebration. For, perhaps the first time, leaders of three opposition parties shared a common platform, putting on display a rare show of unity. The “unity tunes” that resonated at the SGPDA ground have assumed added significance, coming as they do ahead of a series of elections in Goa — beginning with the Zilla Panchayat polls slated for December. Wait and watch.

‘Who are the real Narkasurs?’ Oppn, ruling camps trade barbs

The call from the SGPDA grounds by leaders of Congress, Goa Forward, and Revolutionary Goans to “burn the Narkasurs” has sparked quite a debate — who, after all, are the real Narkasurs and who are the Gods? The opposition’s message was loud and clear — aimed squarely at the ruling dispensation. But members of the ruling coalition were quick to hit back, questioning whether these very opposition leaders could claim divine status if they branded others as demons. So, who really are the Narkasurs and who are the Gods in Goa’s political landscape? That’s a question only the people of Goa can answer. Any questions?

Kamat unfazed by Opposition’s ‘unity tunes’ at Fatorda event

PWD Minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat appeared his usual composed self this week, seemingly unfazed by the “unity tunes” struck by opposition leaders in neighbouring Fatorda on the eve of Diwali festivities. The seasoned campaigner dismissed any notion of threat to his Margao citadel, confidently asserting that he has little to worry about as long as he enjoys the blessings of Lord Dambab, Margao’s presiding deity — and the goodwill of the Madgavkars. Have the opposition leaders anything to say and react? Wait and watch.

Unity call boomerangs as AAP attacks Congress duo

In what seems a sheer coincidence, Congress leaders in Goa batting for unity between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, has come under attack – ironically, from AAP itself. Among those in the Congress batting for a possible tie-up were none other than GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar and Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao. Their stand on Congress-AAP alliance did not go down well with several members in the Congress rank and file, especially in Salcete, where the duo faced criticism for supporting the alliance. Now, the duo is under sharp attack from AAP, interesting isn’t it?

Aspirant from Salcete meets Cong desk in-charge, sparks speculation

Congress leaders are on the job trying to identify a “budding politician”, from Saxttidom, reportedly keen to make his electoral debut in the 2027 Assembly elections, who recently met the party’s Goa desk in-charge, Manikrao Thakare. Buzz within the Congress suggests that this aspiring leader made a quiet trip to Mumbai to call on Thakare, possibly to explore joining the party. What remains unclear is whether he expressed his willingness to join, and on what terms. Is the leadership of an opposition party, with whom this budding politician was closely associated with, is aware of his outreach to the Congress? Wait and watch.
