Will Sawant keep the date with Margao carnival float parade on Sunday?

The BJP ruled Margao Municipal Council has gone to town announcing that the Chief Minister would flag off the Margao Carnival float parade on Sunday. In the game of one-upmanship, the BJP has got the carnival float parade route from Fatorda back to Margao. The government authorities too have punctured Vijaibab Sardesai’s annual Fatorda carnival blast by denying permissions.  Wait and watch whether Pramodbab will descend in Margao on Sunday to send a message loud and clear he means business.

Vijaibab fears that his programmes

in Fatorda may not see light of day

After the government scuttled his Fatorda carnival blast, Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai’s Fatorda appears a worried lot, but for a different reason. Vijaibab has expressed fears that his programmes in Fatorda, including the Narkasura competition, may meet a similar fate going by the way the authorities denied the permissions. His fears may not be totally unfounded given that a senior police officer had walked into the Narkasura competition to stop music after 12 midnight. Luckily, the Goa Forward Chief had escaped the wrath of the men-in-uniform since he has got the sound permission till 6 am. Any questions?

Digambar plays down Damu’s Valentine

Day remark, says Sudin will go by shastra

Power Minister Sudinbab Dhavlikar launching road illumination coinciding with “Valentine Day” would have certainly raised eyebrows in political and social circles. Indeed, when Margao Municipal Civic Chief Damu Shirodkar said the Margao ring road illumination is being launched on Valentine’s day, Margao MLA Diggu was quick to step in before any damage could be done. An overcautious Diggu not only downplayed Damu’s Valentine Day remark, but did the damage control by indirectly saying Sudinbab is one leader who would go by the shastra before launching any development.

Political observers wonder what message

Churchill was trying to send out to parties

It was a week when Varca strongman Bab Churchill went to the media after a long silence. He spoke on the burning Mhadei issue, but ended up in giving an advice or two to the political parties not to indulge in politics but join hands to protect Goa’s interests.  Political observers are trying to figure out what was the exact message Churchillbab was sending out to the political parties, more so to Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai, on Mhadei. Wait and watch.

Keeping MMC councillors together may

not be easy in Digambar's absence

Diggu must have realized that one has to tread a cautious path in keeping together the flock in the Margao Municipal Council. For, every time, aggrieved councillors knocked at his door with grievances, he has handled them with care. One who will not let things to aggravate, Diggu seemed to have used his rich experience to manage the group. Wait and watch who will play this role in Diggu’s absence as the Margao MLA is reportedly planning a fortnight-long vacation to the UK early next month.

The political slugfest between political friends and foes over the Margao carnival was on expected lines. What, however, came as a surprise was the role played by the concerned authorities, be it the district authorities or the men-in-uniform, including the traffic police. For, it’s now clear that these authorities do not adopt an independent stand while issuing permissions in respect of routes or venues, but rather toe the line of their political masters. Indeed time for…
