CANACONA
The Agonda Altar Server Girls, representing the Canacona Deanery, emerged victorious in the All Goa Altar Servers’ Tie-Breaker Tournament, defeating Chinchinim Deanery 2-0 in the final.

The tournament, organised by the Seminary of Our Lady, Saligao-Pilerne, saw intense competition among 19 teams from across Goa.

The Agonda girls secured the championship trophy and gold medals after a well-earned 2-0 win in the 5-a-side final. The winning team was felicitated by the chief guest, who presented them with garlands and trophies in recognition of their achievement.

In the earlier rounds, Canacona Deanery received a walk-over in their opening match as Bicholim Deanery failed to show up. However, they showed their mettle by defeating Goa-Velha Deanery and emerging victorious in an evenly fought tie-breaker match against Margao Deanery in the semifinals.

The tournament saw 19 teams participating, divided into two groups. Teams from Benaulim, Siolim, Raia, Mapusa, Verna, Panaji, Mormugao, Calangute, and Pernem were in one group, while the second group featured teams from Old Goa, Ponda, Goa Velha, Bicholim, Canacona, Quepem, Sanguem, Margao, and Aldona.

In a separate boys’ competition, the Agonda Altar Server Boys team, also representing the Canacona Deanery, was eliminated in the first round of the tie-breaker.

Fr Patrick Luis, the Parish Priest of Agonda, and Fr Baltazar Fernandes, the Assistant Parish Priest and sports enthusiast, both congratulated the winning girls for their remarkable performance.

Individual Awards: Best Goalkeeper: Gwyneth Fernandes (Canacona Deanery); Best Player: Alifa Fernandes (Canacona Deanery)
